Part of the Holstein 001 collection, each piece from the collection is cut from a single shoulder of jet black leather sourced from Thomas Ware & Sons, Bristol's own tannery. The leather is semi-rigid with a subtle texture, chosen for structure and character. The Holstein name comes from the breed: robust, consistent, built to work. So are these pieces.

The leather

Vegetable tanned leather is the slow choice. It takes weeks to produce, costs more than chrome tanned alternatives, and results in a leather that is fundamentally different to the material found in most mass-market wallets. It does not peel away from a synthetic backing. It does not crack along fold lines. It develops a patina, deepening in colour, softening in texture, taking on the marks of daily life in a way that makes each piece entirely its own.

No decorative coatings, no finishes applied to make it look better than it is. The jet black of the Holstein collection comes from the leather itself. Over time, handled edges lighten slightly and high-contact areas develop a burnished quality that no factory process can replicate.

The construction

Every stitch is placed by hand using contrasting white Ritza thread, a waxed, braided thread chosen for its strength and its clean, visible line. The contrast between jet black leather and white stitching is deliberate: it reflects the precision of the work rather than hiding it. The saddle stitch technique used throughout means each stitch is locked independently, so wear on one thread does not compromise the seam.

Edges are finished by hand, bevelled, sanded, and burnished until smooth. The wallet is slim by design, with no unnecessary layers or padding between you and what you carry.
